Group unveils compendium to tackle challenges

Think Tank on Nigeria (TTON) has unveiled a compendium of communiques on various issues facing the country and ways of addressing them.

TTON, comprising technocrats concerned with policy analysis and advocacy, is an online platform with 278 members from various professions, and drawn from across the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.

The group’s suggestions are contained in a document titled: ‘Conversations Volume 1,’ an 85-page compendium of communiques on various pertinent issues meant to contribute to the body of knowledge to resolve issues across sectors in the nation.

While presenting the document at the Rahaman Bello Hall of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), the convener, Dideolu Falobi, said Nigeria had enough human and natural resources to address the myriad of challenges confronting it.

Falobi explained that the body, which started in 2022, was a product of a strategic review of the nation, its challenges and opportunities, and the urgent need to arrest the decline in all facets of national life.

He said the TTON platform was created to proffer solutions by bringing together all segments and social classes of Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora.

According to him, a major challenge with Nigeria’s 25-year-old fourth Republic is the elevation of politics over governance, as well as endemic corruption.

“I believe there is no argument against that. Most of our elected functionaries are so busy with politics and the accumulation of illicit wealth that no serious thoughts are given to the generation of ideas that would drive good governance, ensure peaceful and equitable development, as well as assure our today and the future.
