Group vows to flush out illegal bunkering in Niger Delta region

The Association of Nigeria Refineries Petroleum Marketers (ANRPM), yesterday, vowed to flush out all forms of illegalities in the petroleum sector in the Niger Delta region.

The controller, Niger Delta operation, Dr Eldson Nwadiaro, made the vow in Asaba, Delta State, while inaugurating a task force to achieve the task. Nwadiaro said members of the task force will also undergo specialised training.

He said the task force has a mandate to flush out bunkering, dubious middlemen, adulteration of products, artificial scarcity, and other forms of illegalities in the petroleum sector.

He said the reason for the initiative was to raise the bar in the petroleum sector for optimal and prudent management of products, and to boost the Nigerian economy.

“We are trying to put a stop to illegalities in the oil sector. We are a federal task force and we have legal backing. We will work with security agencies to ensure smooth operations,” he said.

For those involved in illegal bunkering, Nwadiaro said: “We intend to identify these illegal bunkers, bring them under one roof, and then approach the Federal Government to do the needful, just like what the Federal Government did under the amnesty, to enable them to stop bunkering in the Niger Delta region.”
