The Esteemed-Hub Foundation, in collaboration with Education As a Vaccine (EVA), is set to commemorate the World Environmental Day (WED) billed for June 5 at Gwada community, Niger State, with series of impactful initiatives aimed at advocating for environmental preservation and sustainability in the Gwada community and beyond.

The United Nations (UN) established World Environmental Day as a global platform to promote environmental consciousness and inspire action towards safeguarding our planet for future generations.

In a statement by the Executive Director Esteem Hub Foundation, Princess Doo, the theme for this year’s celebration is “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience,” emphasising the critical need to address environmental challenges such as land degradation and desertification.

The statement added that as a key partner in the noble cause, the Esteemed-Hub Foundation strives to raise awareness among the residents of Gwada community about the importance of taking proactive steps to protect their environment and foster a sustainable living environment.

It further said that as part of the activities lined up for the significant event, the Esteemed-Hub Foundation and EVA will organise a road walk and tree planting exercise in the Gwada community.

According to the statement, the road walk will provide an opportunity for participants to actively engage in the cleanup of streets and motor parks, symbolising a collective commitment to maintaining a clean and sustainable environment, adding that the event will feature educational sensitisation sessions aimed at enlightening community members on best practices such as sanitation and tree planting for environmental conservation, as well as the integral role they play in ecosystem preservation.

“We are thrilled to join hands with EVA and other stakeholders to mark World Environmental Day in Gwada, emphasising that this year’s theme underscores the urgency of addressing environmental issues affecting land and natural resources. The collaborative effort is aimed at empowering community members to become catalysts for positive environmental change and advocate for sustainable practices that ensure the resilience of our ecosystem.”
