Gunmen attack police station in Ebonyi

Gunmen

Unknown gunmen, yesterday, attacked Ohaukwu Police Division at Ezzamgbo, in Ohaukwu Local Council of the state, burning vehicles.

Though no casualties were recorded as gallant men on duty repelled the gunmen, a source told The Guardian that the gunmen, numbering eight, came in a bus and started shooting, which caused panic in the neighborhood.

The attack also disrupted the distribution of palliatives by the Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Council, Ikechukwu Odono.

The source said: “Everyone, including the Chairman of the council, ran for their lives to avoid injuries from the gunshots.”

Odono confirmed the incident to The Guardian, saying that no life was lost, while the attackers burnt some vehicles at the police station.

He further stated that the attack disrupted the distribution of palliatives in the council headquarters as people ran for safety.

All efforts to speak with the Ebonyi State Police spokesperson, ASP Ukandu Joshua, proved abortive as he refused to pick his calls.
