Gunmen late Thursday invaded Agojeju Odo in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State killing 19 persons while many houses were set ablaze.
Confirming the incident on Friday, spokesperson for Kogi State Police Command, SP William Aya, said 19 people were killed while some sustained injuries in the attack.
He stated that the Commissioner of Police CP Bethrand Onuoha has deployed additional police personnel to the communities, assuring that the perpetrators of the act will be apprehended.
Meanwhile, the locals said, the gunmen attacked the sleepy town of Agojeju Odo in Omala local government area where men were killed and farms destroyed.
The community appealed to Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo and Security Agencies to come to their aid by deploying more security personnel to the area.
They said the police in the local government council had been overwhelmed and overpowered by the attackers.
