Herbert Wigwe: federal investigator releases photo of helicopter crash

United States (U.S.) federal investigators released photos regarding the helicopter crash in California that killed Herbert Wigwe, Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings PLC and five others.

The helicopter crash occurred on February 10 near Nipton, California, killing all six people on board, including Mr Wigwe, his wife, son, and former Nigerian Exchange Group chairman Abimbola Ogunbanjo.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Investigator, Michael Graham, said the aircraft departed Palm Springs, California, headed for Boulder City, Nevada, when it went down near Halloran Springs, California, just northeast of Baker.

Graham stated that the helicopter was flying at an altitude of 1,000 to 1,500 feet above Interstate 15 before making a slight right turn and descending to the ground.

The investigation revealed that near the end of the data, the helicopter is seen making a slight right turn and heading south of the interstate. The descent was gradual, with increasing ground speed.

According to Graham, flight track data ended about a quarter mile from the wreckage site. It was raining in the crash area at the time.

Officials have recovered electronic and onboard equipment for further examination and analysis, but the helicopter lacked a voice recorder, according to Graham.

The wreckage will also be transported to a secure location for analysis.

He added that the Federal Aviation Administration records show the helicopter was registered to the Burbank-based company Orbic Air. It took off from Palm Springs, California and was bound for Boulder City, Nevada.
