The Nigerian government announced on Monday that it is collaborating with the United States (US) authorities in the investigation into the tragic helicopter crash in California that killed Herbert Wigwe, Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings PLC and five others.

The helicopter crash occurred on February 10 near Nipton, California, killing all six people on board, including Mr Wigwe, his wife, son, and former Nigerian Exchange Group chairman Abimbola Ogunbanjo.

The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed in a statement that all onboard are dead and no survivors had been found as of Saturday.

US said authorities as of Saturday said an investigation about the plane crash was ongoing.

Nigeria’s aviation and aerospace development minister Festus Keyamo disclosed that the Nigerian government is part of the process while responding to a public inquiry on X.

A user on X named Sistaliano asked Keyamo if America was too big to ask questions about the crash.

“If that had happened to their citizens in Nigeria, would they have kept quiet?” the X user said.

Keyamo responded that the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has contacted its US counterpart, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), to collaborate on the investigation into the tragic helicopter crash.

“Thank you, my sister, for your observation. We worked throughout the weekend to be abreast with the situation in the US regarding the crash that killed Herbert Wigwe and others,” Keyamo tweeted.

Keyamo also noted that emails have been exchanged, and the Nigerian government will be releasing a comprehensive statement later today regarding the incident.
