Hilton expands Nigerian footprint with two new properties in Lagos, Enugu

In a significant expansion of its portfolio in Africa, Hilton (NYSE: HLT) has announced the signing of agreements to introduce two of its global brands, Canopy by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn, to Nigeria, signaling a bolstered presence and continued investment in the continent.

Under partnerships with local developers, Hilton will open Canopy by Hilton Lagos Victoria Island and Hilton Garden Inn Enugu, each tailored to provide unique and locally-inspired hospitality experiences in their respective cities.

Hilton’s Vice President of Development for the Middle East and Africa, Carlos Khneisser, expressed enthusiasm about the new ventures, stating that these new signings reaffirm Hilton’s commitment to Africa’s hospitality sector and confidence in Nigeria as a dynamic and growing market.

“We’re pleased to collaborate with Hotel Signature Limited and FIT Group to offer more choices and a differentiated experience to our guests,” he stated.

Khneisser said Canopy by Hilton Lagos Victoria Island is set to become a landmark in Lagos’ vibrant district, featuring 176 guest rooms, including luxury suites with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.

According to him, the property promises a boutique experience with sophisticated design elements, a café, and a rooftop bar offering stunning city and ocean vistas. Business travelers and event planners can look forward to well-appointed meeting spaces and a large conference room.

The Chief Executive Officer of Hotel Signature Limited and owner of the new Canopy location, Domingo Obende, noted the strategic importance of the hotel’s position and its anticipated appeal to both leisure and business visitors.

“We are thrilled to bring the Canopy by Hilton brand to Nigeria, confident that this hotel will deliver a locally-inspired, high-end stay,” he said.

According to the management, Hilton Garden Inn Enugu, through its agreement with FIT Hospitality & Entertainment Limited, will feature 150 rooms and various amenities including a lobby bar, an all-day dining restaurant, and meeting facilities. Located in the HELIU Health Tourism District & Residences, the hotel is poised to attract guests with its proximity to cultural, technological, and transportation hubs.

The Chief Executive Officer of FIT Group, Loretta Aniagolu, highlighted the strategic placement of the Hilton Garden Inn Enugu, noting that it will provide guests with a unique hospitality experience, capturing the essence of Nigeria’s vibrant culture and heritage.

According to her, these new establishments will join Hilton’s existing Nigerian portfolio, which includes the Transcorp Hilton Abuja and Legend Hotel Lagos Airport, Curio Collection by Hilton, along with the under-development Koko Beach Resort Ilashe Lagos, Curio Collection by Hilton.

Aniagolu said with these latest additions, Hilton continues to strengthen its presence in Nigeria, catering to the growing demand for high-quality accommodation and hospitality services that resonate with local charm and international standards.
