House of rep member alleges anti-party activities in PDP

Umar Damagun

• APC needs FCT minister for Tinubu’s election victory, says Okocha

A member of the House of Representatives, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, yesterday, accused the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagun, of acting out a script to destroy the party and rendering it incapable of contesting the 2027 elections.

Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato South/Ideato North Federal Constituency of Imo State, alleged that Damagun was plotting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to return 27 Rivers State lawmakers, who, in December 2023, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said that the acting PDP chairman has also gone against the tenets of the agreement reached at the last National Executive Council meeting of the PDP, which allowed him to remain in office until August, when a new chairman will be elected, by obtaining a court injunction against his removal.

Addressing newsmen in his office at the National Assembly Complex, Ugochinyere also told governors, lawmakers and other leaders of the party to rise up and speak out to save the party from those he called agents of the APC.

Meanwhile, as the political wrangling between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Nyesom Wike continues, the Rivers State APC Chairman, Tony Okocha, has said that the party needs the FCT Minister in the party because he is too relevant in Rivers politics.

Okocha stated this, yesterday, during a one- million-man solidarity march for  President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, noting that Wike is a political strategist and that they need him to help win the 2027 presidential election for Tinubu.

Okocha, who noted that Tinubu is committed to fixing the nation and returning its glory, emphasised that it is a gradual process.

The APC Chairman explained that Wike is the leader of the renewed hope agenda in the state, reiterating that the minister was responsible for Tinubu’s election in Rivers.
