I am right choice for Edo governorship – Eromosele

Prof. Sunny Eromosele

An aspirant in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State, Prof. Sunny Eromosele, yesterday insisted that he is the right candidate to turn around the affairs of the state.

The oil and gas expert and founder of Mudiame University, Irrua, is contesting the election on the platform of Labour Party (LP).

Popularly called Mudiame, Eromosele is banking on his experience outside of politics to clinch the ticket of his party and subsequently win the election, maintaining that there is a need for a fresh brain to tackle the leadership crisis in the state.

Speaking with The Guardian, he noted that there is a need for Edo Central Senatorial District to produce the next governor of the state after 24 years.

Eromosele noted that he stands in the right position to represent his people to ensure that the gap in poor governance is bridged.

Describing the challenges in the state as alarming, he cited poverty and backwardness as factors exacerbating the dependency ratio in the state.

Eromosele highlighted the issue of human trafficking, stating that Edo State has the highest number of trafficked persons according to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), with a significant number of Nigerian sex workers in Europe originating from the state.

With a ‘Move Against Poverty’ (MAP) programme, Eromosele said it was high time for Edo to be ‘Restored, Increased, Secured and Empowered’ (RISE).

According to him, his background in entrepreneurship taught him the value of innovation, problem-solving and effective decision-making.

“These skills are crucial in addressing the complex challenges facing our state. As an innovator, I have a track record of finding creative solutions to problems, and I intend to bring that same spirit of innovation to the political landscape. My party cherishes the ethos of equity and justice. Given this background, I am sure of being victorious at the primary election,” Eromosele said.

He stated that he would prioritise the issues of road infrastructure, education, unemployment, health and others pressing matters in the state.

“I will interface with the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on roads. We will also explore state intervention programmes where possible,” he said.
