I will not disappoint you as FCT Minister, Wike tells kinsmen

FCT minister Nyesom Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has assured his kinsmen that he will not disappoint them in the performance of his function as FCT Minister.

Wike, who spoke as a Special Guest of Honour at the Weekend, during the 2024 Annual Cultural Day of the Apex Socio-cultural Organization of Ikwerre Ethnic Nationality known as Ogbako Ikwerre Organisation Worldwide, expressed gratitude to Ikwerre people for the support he enjoyed while he served as State governor for eight years.

While noting that the Ikwerre people benefited during his administration in areas of appointment and the upgrade of their traditional chieftaincy stools, Wike affirmed that the organisation was instrumental in the 2023 general elections that brought the current administration of President Bola Tinubu to power.

Represented by Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke, the FCT Minister advised the people of Ikwerre Ethnic Nationality to be united and politically vigilant.

He also urged other ethnic groups in the state to rally around President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, for the development of the State and country.

He said: “The Minister has asked me to inform his people that he will not disappoint them in the performance of his function as FCT Minister.

“When it was time for serious decision-making in the politics of 2023 as it affected the nation and Rivers State, it was a very difficult time, given the position of his party, the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) and its presidential candidate and the then-presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress(APC).

“He decided as an individual to support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, realizing that he could not achieve this alone, he came back to his people given the numerical strength of Ikwerre ethnic nationality in Rivers State and the politics of Nigeria, he sought the support of his people and they did not disappoint him and the result of that support is what we are benefiting today.”

Meanwhile, the Socio-cultural Organization said it would continue to use the Ikwerre culture to unite and foster peace among the people.

The President of the Organization, Eze Godspower Onuekwa, commended the leadership of Ikwerre who had used the culture to ensure peace and development in the state and country.

He said the day is used as a means to sustain, enhance the love and showcase the cultural value of the Ikwerre people.
