I will patronize local contractors if elected, says Oyo SDP candidate

THE governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo state, Mr Seyi Makindehas promised to patronize local contractors if elected in the forthcoming polls.

Makinde who gave this assurance at Bodija Market during his electioneering campaign said no efforts would be spared to fight poverty to a standstill in the state.

He also promised to give the entire market a face-lift to make it attractive, not only to the citizens, but to foreigners alike, recalling his past efforts in the sawmill section of the market when he had to spend millions of Naira to assist in evacuating sawdust of several years.

He said the picture of the market he had in mind was to organize the market in such a way that such problem of having heaps of un-cleared sawdust would not re-occur again.

While asking the market men and women, who trooped out in their thousands to vote for him and see the good works and plans he had for the state, Makinde enjoined them not to be disillusioned by the antics of some unidentified people tearing his posters.

He told them, “if they tear the posters, they can’t tear your fingers, use your fingers to vote for me and our party at all the levels of the elections, we are coming to serve you and not to rip you off”.

The leaders of the various sections of the market took turns to address the gubernatorial candidate and his team during which they endorsed him as their candidate based on the existing relationship between him and the traders.

They told Makinde not to bother assisting them with mobilization fund ahead of the election, promising that his philanthropic gestures, which the market had benefitted from in the past would come into action now.

“This is pay-back time and we will not disappoint you”, the market leaders added.
