ALLEGING marginalisation in the scheme of things in Enugu State, some communities in Igbo-Eze North Local Council of the state have called on Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to ensure equity and fairness in the sharing of political positions.

The communities, which comprise the Essodo II and Essodo III electoral wards of the local council, in a protest letter to the Governor said they “are remembered during voting but forgotten during the sharing of the benefits of electoral victory via appointments.”

The letter titled “A Protest Letter on the Persistent Marginalisation of Essodo II and Essodo III Wards in Political Positions in Igbo-Eze North” was written under the aegis of Essodo Ward II and Essodo III Stakeholders Forum and signed by HRH, Igwe Chidi Abugu of Umuogbo Inyi and Hon. Chukwu Apeh.

Going down memory lane, the communities noted that save for councillorship positions, out of the 10 constitutional electoral wards in Igbo-Eze North 11 Constituency, it is only the people of Essodo I and Essodo II that have never tasted any elective or appointive political position at the local, state or national levels. They said: “We are crying as political orphans and praying you to come to our rescue and see the need to appoint at least one person each from these two wards to serve in your people-oriented government.

This would bring about equity, justice and fairness, which typify your character and approach to politics. Our electoral value as the second and third largest wards in Igbo-Eze North 11 Constituency is a useful index and justification of our request. The facts are there and verifiable.

It disgusting and appalling to find out that politicians from wards that trail behind   Essodo II and Essodo III in votes continue to not only feature but are recycled for political appointments. This is injustice.”
