Igbo youths urge Tinubu to facilitate Ekweremadu’s release

Ekweremadu

Igbo youths, under the aegis of the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL),  have asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the case of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, to ensure his release.

Ekweremadu is serving a jail term in a United Kingdom prison following his conviction of organ harvesting by the court.

In a statement, yesterday, signed by their leader, Goodluck Ibem, the youth group said he should not be allowed to continue to suffer in prison.

It said: “Ekweremadu has touched many lives in many ways through his scholarships, bursary awards, jobs, free local and foreign medical care and treatment, empowerment of all kinds, and provision of various infrastructure to make life easier for Nigerians.

“It will amount to political neglect and nepotism to allow the once number four citizen to rot in UK prison when something political can be done to secure his release.

“The Yoruba nation activist Chief Sunday Igboho, who was locked up in Benin Republic,  has been released on the intervention of the FG.

“We urge His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, and the Nigerian Senate, headed by Godswill Akpabio, to see how to secure the release. Senator Ike Ekweremadu is a good man and it will not be politically correct to allow him to rot in UK prison having served the nation wholeheartedly and dutifully in various capacities. Something urgent needs to be done to secure his release.”
