Igboho says travails beyond endorsement of politicians

Embattled Yoruba Nation self-determination activist, Sunday Adeyemo (popularly called Sunday Igboho), has said the trouble facing him is beyond endorsement of politicians.

His lead counsel, Chief Yomi Aliyu (SAN), disclosed this, yesterday, following a social media report that he denied endorsing the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

Aliyu, who had sought time to consult with his client, eventually called to say, “Igboho said he knew nothing about the report and that what is before him is beyond endorsing any presidential candidate.

“Those who placed the story must have been looking for what to benefit from either Tinubu or the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.”

According to the lawyer, Igboho is still very much interested in actualising the Yoruba Nation and, therefore, may not have the time to endorse anybody or have the time to write.

He explained: “Many people do not seem to understand that Igboho is still under a house arrest in Cotonou, Republic Benin, and therefore restricted from a lot of things. But that will not stop him from enjoying his freedom of expression.

“We hope that things will be better for Igboho after the presidential election scheduled to hold on Saturday, irrespective of who wins the contest among the candidates.”

There was a social media report that Igboho, in a statement on his social media handle, noted that he had not endorsed Tinubu and would not endorse him ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

Igboho, according to the report, insists on actualising the Yoruba Nation.

The statement reads: “My attention has been drawn to the viral reports and videos circulating on social media purporting and showing a group of individuals under the aegis of Yoruba Self Determination Coalition (YSDC) endorsing the candidature of Tinubu ahead of the general elections.

“I wish to categorically state that I, Sunday Igboho, the leadership of the Yoruba Nation Movement, alongside the Yoruba Self Determination Movement (YSDM) under the leadership of Prof. Banji Akintoye, have not and will not endorse any politician ahead of the 2023 elections.”
