IGP replaces commissioner of police in Adamawa

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, has ordered for the replacement of the Commissioner of Police on election duty in Adamawa State, Mohammed Barde.

This was disclosed by Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to Adejobi, the IGP ordered that the Commissioner of Police in charge of Gombe State, CP Etim Equa should proceed to Adamawa State for election security of the yet-to-be concluded supplementary governorship election.

Adejobi also revealed that the Police Chief has not received any letter from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking the probe and prosecution of its Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa, Hudu Yunusa Ari.

Earlier on Tuesday, INEC called on the police to prosecute Ari over the controversial supplementary governorship election conducted in Adamawa State on Saturday.

Ari declared that Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won the supplementary gubernatorial election.

However, INEC voided the declaration of Binani as the winner and also summoned Ari to Abuja and declared his announcement an invalid declaration and a usurpation of the powers of the collation and returning officer.

Also Ari was told by INEC to stay away from all activities of the electoral umpire and the election in Adamawa state.
