Imo CP launches manhunt for abductors of ex-monarchs’ council chair

Eze Samuel Ohiri

Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has deployed a special tactical squad of the command, in conjunction with other sister security operatives, to rescue the abducted ex-chairman of the Imo Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Samuel Ohiri .

Ohiri was abducted at his palace in Obi Orodo autonomous community in Mbaitoli Local Council, at the weekend, and was taken by four persons in a Toyota Highlander to an unknown destination. His cousin, according to an eyewitness, escaped unhurt.

The abduction of the monarch was the second time he would witness such an incident. In 2011, he was kidnapped at the same palace, while his father was killed in the process. He was kept at the dungeon of his abductors for some time before he regained freedom.

Condemning the act, Danjuma vowed that no stone will be left unturned until Ohiri is released and his kidnappers brought to book. The spokesperson of the command, Henry Okoye, who confirmed the development in a statement yesterday, said the commissioner asked the squad to synergise with the military and other security agencies, hunt down the hoodlums responsible.

He added: “The CP urged the public and family members of the victim to remain calm as the Command is on top of the situation and has taken investigative steps towards ensuring that the victim is rescued unhurt and his kidnappers arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.

“He also deployed more police operatives to the Mbaitoli axis for robust visibility patrol to forestall similar occurrences.

“The command called on members of the public who may have any information that could lead to the rescue of Ohiri to do so.
