Impeachment: Panel investigating Edo deputy Gov to commence sitting April 3

The panel constituted by the Chief Judge of Edo State to investigate allegations of misconduct levelled against the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, by the State House of Assembly, will resume sitting on Wednesday, April 3.
 
Recall that the panel is to investigate the allegations of perjury and revealing of government secrets against Shaibu. The Administrative Secretary of the panel, George Odidi, announced this in a statement in Benin yesterday.
 
“Take notice that consequent upon the inauguration of the above panel by His Lordship, the Hon. Chief Judge of Edo State, Hon. Justice D.I. Okungbowa in line with Section 188 subsection 5 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, the said panel shall commence sitting at Judges Conference Room, New High Court Complex, Benin City on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 10:00am prompt.
 
“Parties and/or their counsel are expected to be present on that day while the complainant is expected to be ready to present its case on that day,” the statement said.
 
Recall also that following the directive of the State House of Assembly, the Edo State Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, on Friday, March 22, 2024, constituted a seven-man committee to investigate the allegations levelled against Shaibu.
 
Meanwhile, the Benin Monarch, Ewuare II, has felicitated Christians on the occasion of 2024 Easter Celebrations. The monarch in a statement made available to newsmen by the Chief Press Secretary to the Oba of Benin, Osaigbovo Iguobaro, urged Christians to emulate the virtues of Christ in their daily living during the yearly festival in the Christian calendar, marking Christ’s death and his resurrection.
 
Oba Ewuare II, implored Christians to draw strength from the message of hope offered by the sacrifice of Jesus and promote virtues of love and cohesion irrespective of their challenges.
 
The Royal father, who also admonished Christian faithful to be Christ-like and pray fervently to God for forgiveness of their sins
through the grace of God, asked God to heal Nigeria.
