Congratulatory messages are still pouring in for two of Nollywood’s stars Adesua Etomi- Wellington and Lala Akindoju who welcomed their first babies recently. Social media is still abuzz with excitement since the cheery news broke that the celebrity couples have now been admitted into the unofficial ‘mummy and daddy’ club.
It was the Wellington’s who first broke the cheery news. Nollywood actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington had taken to her Instagram handle on her 33rd birthday to announce that the family welcomed their first son four weeks ago. This was how the Wedding Party star broke the news: “You have a track record of keeping Your word. Olorun Agbaye o, You are mighty. Four weeks ago, I received the best birthday gift ever. Our son.”
Adesua and the singer Banky Wellington aka Banky W had their white wedding in Cape Town, South Africa in 2017 and marked their third wedding anniversary on November 25, 2020. Observers say but for COVID-19 restrictions, there would have been a loud-in-Lagos shindig to welcome the bundle joy.
On the other hand, Lala and her husband Gbubemi Fregene known simply as Chef Fegz, welcomed their first baby on Sunday. The star of Tunde Kelani’s Dazzling Mirage shared pregnancy pictures on her Instagram handle and wrote: “Becoming three.”
If Lala and Fegz kept their wedding in 2018 as one of the most kept celebrity secret, they couldn’t help but to make this public, not even with the pictures which Lala shared gleeful on social media.
Until their pre-wedding pictures started popping up on social media, not so many people linked Lala and Fregz. But they were in love and they sealed it at the surprise wedding attended by very close celebrity friends, colleagues and family members.
Star actress Funke Akindele-Bello was one of the celebrities who sent early message of congratulations to the couples. The Omo Ghetto star Funke who welcomed her twin boys in 2018 advised her colleagues- Adesua and Lala to get ready for sleepless nights.
“Latest mums in town. Oluwa Seun. All glory be to God. Congrats my darling sisters. May the lord continue to be with you all and your bundles of joy. Oluwa a da won si fun wa Amin. Oya, get ready for the sleepless nights, but trust me, you will love it,” she wrote on her Instagram handle.
Nicknamed ‘Sunshine’ by her friends and colleagues, Adesua has moved from an appearance in her short film Brave to a leading performance in that engaging telling by Royal Pictures Academy Knocking on Heavens Door and the groundbreaking television series Gidi Up. She has proven that she is that actress any good producer should engage if he or she wants an actress who can live a role believably.
Born in Owerri, Imo State to a father who is from Edo State and a mother who is Yoruba, Adesua acts with a lot of depth. She throws herself into a role and makes every role she has played seem as though it was written with her in mind. Indeed, most directors who have worked closely with her since she returned from abroad to join the industry after her university education, affirm that she is good and that the humble, friendly and amiable actress who also sings, has brought some spark to the Nigerian stage and screen acting firmament.
“It feels good. No feeling like it,” was Adesua’s reply to a text on what it feels like to be a mum.
Lala, as Kemi is simply called by close friends, is reputed as a self made actress who is having a good run both on stage and screen. She recently got a chance to feature in Kunle Afolayan’s new film The CEO and in the comedy film by TASC Surulere. She played the leading role in Tunde Kelani’s award winning film Dazzling Mirage and has featured in a couple of stage and screen productions.
“I lack words to describe the feeling. It is a good feeling. I just give God the glory,” was Lala’s reply to a text on what it feels like to be a mum.
