Infinix commissions ICT Centre at Ibadan Varsity

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to promote technology, innovation, and entrepreneurial development among students, Infinix commissioned a state-of-the-art Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at the University of Ibadan, Oyo state.

The event, held on the university campus, marked a significant step in supporting the Infinix Social Club, a partnership between Infinix and the university established in 2022.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Doris Zhao, Infinix Nigeria Senior Marketing Manager, emphasised the company’s commitment to youth development.

She stated, “At Infinix, our commitment goes beyond technology. We are dedicated to empowering students, enhancing their skills, and preparing them for global opportunities. This ICT centre represents our shared vision of providing the tools and resources needed to foster innovation and success.”

Zhao added that the commissioning of the ICT centre marks the beginning of a journey filled with endless possibilities. She expressed optimism about the future achievements that will emerge from this partnership, thanking the university for its warm welcome and support.

Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the university’s status as the first and best in the country.

He noted that the university not only focuses on undergraduate admissions but also has strong postgraduate programs, approaching a ratio of 60 to 40, to serve both the country and the African continent.

Adebowale stated, “We are hoping that in very few years, we’ll be able to produce a critical mass of researchers that would be able to address developmental challenges of the African continent.” He mentioned the university’s collaboration with counterparts in Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and North Africa, forming a consortium to tackle similar developmental challenges in the African continent.

He added that the centre would benefit all stakeholders of the university and pledged the institution’s commitment to its upkeep. Adebowale assured that a system would be put in place to maintain and secure the facility, ensuring its long-term benefits for the university community.
