Inmates of C’River old people’s home lament abandonment by relatives

Inmates

Old inmates at the Pope John Paul II Good Samaritan Home in Cross River State, Calabar, have cried out over abandonment by relatives.

They made this known at the weekend when the President of Calabar Forum (United Kingdom), Mkpang Coco-Bassey, and his team visited the home.

A female inmate (name withheld), who spoke on behalf of the others, thanked them for the visit, coming especially at a time when Nigerians are experiencing hardship.

While praying for God’s blessings on the foundation, she lamented that children whom they had laboured over from birth to adulthood had forsaken them.

She said: “Thanks to God for people like you who come here to help us. May God bless you continually. We are really blessed when we see people coming to visit us like this. Some of us have been forgotten and abandoned by our relatives. So, when we see good people coming to see us, we know that we are still remembered. May God always remember you.”

Presenting items such as toiletries, wheelchairs, foodstuffs, and cash to the aged, the President of the Forum, who is also Chairman of Coco-Bassey Foundation, said the group decided to give back to the society by visiting the home.

He called on governments and privileged individuals to extend a helping hand to society’s needy, especially the aged, who have been abandoned by relatives.
