Institute matriculates first set of students

The Ed-John Institute of Management and Technology, Isiwu, Lagos, has matriculated its first set of students into various courses.

The institution was formerly the Philips Business School, which was founded in 1997 by Dr. Osaren Emokpae and his wife, Mrs Imose Enoma Emokpae.

Emokpae, at the event, enjoined the students to focus on their academics, reminding that education lays foundation for innovation and progress, and it’s a great equaliser of the conditions of men.

He added that it provides everyone with access to knowledge, regardless of background or financial status.

Emokpae, who stated that he had passion for education from an early age, said it made him pursue academic excellence, which resulted in several degrees, including masters and doctorates.

He said this also informed his decision to establish schools before he later founded the institute.

Speaking on the future of the institute, Emokpae said the institution is already working on facilities to start higher national diploma programmes.

He also stated that the shortage of nursing professionals globally is becoming a serious challenge, and the school management has approached the nursing council, which affirmed that they are qualified to run a nursing school.

Emokpae charged the students not to forget that education with innovation is one of the greatest assets in life and a lifelong pursuit that will open doors.

“Therefore, ensure that you take full advantage of what education has to offer, not only by learning from books, but by engaging with people around you and gaining valuable experience outside the classroom,” he said.

The Rector, Dr. Isa Momoh, advised the students to live up to the high standard expected of them.

Chairman, Governing Council, Dr. Iyi Uwadiae, urged them to concentrate on academic works and shun all acts capable of truncating their future.

The Eweye of Isiwu, Oba Olukayode David Raji, represented by Alhaji Musa Suleiman, said the community welcomes the institution and promised to help provide a conducive atmosphere for learning.
