Institute moves against certificate forgery by politicians

Chatered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria, yesterday, announced plans to launch forensic laboratories to fight against document forgery.

The pioneer president and Chairman Governing Council, Dr Iliyasu Gashinbaki, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) headquarters in Abuja.

He called on IPAC to coordinate all political parties against forgery.

He said the effort was not a Nigerian project but a Pan-African project, stressing: “The institute plans to set up two critical laboratories by the end of this year, which will be crucial for the 2027 General Elections.

“The aim is to ensure that no dubious, questionable, or forged documents are used by politicians during the elections, as there have been instances of forged academic certificates in the past, leading to embarrassment and shortchanging the electorate.

“The institute has proposed to partner with IPAC to ensure that all political parties work with the institution to help with the vetting and authentication of documents of candidates before the primary elections.”

In his remarks, the National Chairman of IPAC, Yusuf Dantalle, welcomed the partnership, acknowledging that it must be encouraged and consolidated for the benefit of the country.
