• Storms Lagos As Debut Single Crosses One Million Streams

UK-BASED Ghanaian singer, Effia Addo, popularly known as Effs, said she’s always had a heavy Nigerian influence. She stated this while showering encomiums on her Nigerian fan base, as she received a warm welcome when she landed in the country.

Effs, currently in Nigeria to celebrate the success of her debut single, titled, I Like That, which garnered over one million streams across the world, with most streams coming from Nigerians thanked her Nigerian fan base for streaming her song.

Speaking with The Guardian in Lagos, Effs said, “They send a lot of messages, make comments on our page and so on. We’ve always had a close relationship with Nigerians, because when I started writing music, it was with Nigerian friends in the university and I really started gathering my passion for Afrobeats from there. I have always had a heavy Nigerian influence because I’ve always been very close with my Nigerian community. So, it’s no surprise that I’m here now.”

According to the singer, who describes her sound as Afro-fusion, “I’m in Nigeria to leverage on the streaming numbers with a view to connecting with my fans and the entire Nigerian music community as well as getting to know them personally.”

She continued, “hey are not only hearing one sound, because of Spotify, Instagram, and things going viral; they are also more open to the new sounds coming in and I have blended my R&B vocals with Afrobeats, which I don’t think is typical. Some of my favourite Nigerian artistes, who I would like to collaborate with are Davido, Adekunle Gold, Chike, Arrya Starr, and a couple of others.

“Nigerians have been incredible when it comes to the arts in general. I also admire Don Jazzy, especially with the way he has evolved over the years. I’ve worked with a lot of underground Nigerian producers who are not big names, but I want to support them to get their music out there because there’s some serious talent in this country.”
