IWD: Performance strategist advocates increased global support for women

Renowned Performance Strategist, Dr. Abiola Salami, has emphasised the importance of increased global support for women.

He highlighted the significance of women enhancing their skills, sharing their achievements to motivate others, separating their experiences from the lessons and fostering a supportive community to achieve the growth and progress they aspire to.

The author of The Peak Performing Woman’s Companion set the tone at the Gender Balance Week/International Women’s Day event in Lagos, under the theme “Inclusion Matters” and powered by PwC.


His statement echoed the spirit of IWD commemorated yearly on March 8th, which honours the advancements in gender equality and women’s empowerment while also prompting a thoughtful review of these achievements and a renewed commitment to furthering global gender equality efforts.

Salami stated that women need to take proactive roles in shaping the discourse on inclusion, urging them not to let external opinions constrain their potential.

The Performance Strategist and Forbes Coaching Council member stressed the need for capable women to lead transformative initiatives across various sectors as part of advancing the dialogue on inclusion.

“It is essential for women to mutually support one another, a duty that extends beyond gender boundaries to encompass everyone, regardless of gender,” he said.

Salami added that collaboration from all individuals is crucial in fostering the desired progress and advancement in inspiring gender inclusion.

He insisted that when women are enabled to operate at their highest levels of performance, they become drivers for socio-economic growth.

During the event, the Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, harped on the importance of embracing diversity, equity and inclusion as foundational values that should shape human interactions, rather than mere trendy terms.

On her part, the Founder of House of Tara, Tara Fela-Durotoye, encouraged women to be more confident. She highlighted the need to engage women more to uncover their potential.

According to the CEO of United Capital Asset Management, Odiri Ogini, women must take personal responsibility for their success.

She further added that young women should continue to make the most use of every opportunity available to learn and grow.

She said: “Whether she is above you, under you or your peer, support every woman around you.”
