A non-governmental organisation, Junior Chamber International (JCI) Nigeria says it is empowering youths between the ages of 18 and 40 with the necessary skills and financial support.
To achieve this, the organisation said it has identified over 1,000 soft skills which young people will be trained on and supported with finance to enable them to overcome poverty and unemployment.
The 2024 International President of JCI Nigeria, Sandra Ekene disclosed this on the sidelines of the Southern Nigeria conference of JCI Nigeria held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking on the theme of the conference ‘Sustainable Structure, Engagement and Efficiency: Inspiring the Future’, Ekene mentioned that most of the skills are in the technology sector.
She said, “JCI-Nigeria is a group of young professionals, employed and self-employed who want to impact positively on the youths to give them a better future.
“The organisation is giving young people a platform where they can have access to different skills that will make them stand out in their different fields of specialisation,” she said.
Keene also said the organization also has the Creative Young Entrepreneurs Award, where over 100 young entrepreneurs have applied for the award across Nigeria.
According to her, five creative minds will be selected and the sum of $5,000 will be given as a grant, not a loan, adding that the partnership is with the United Nations, the government and corporate organisations.
Executive Vice President of JCI-Nigeria, Segun Omotosho added that the organisation has trained widows in the Niger Delta region in fashion designing and donated sewing machines to them among other interventions.
