Jigawa PDP expels Ringim

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has expelled its 2019 gubernatorial candidate, Aminu Ringim, from the party over “anti-party activities and sabotage.”

Ringim contested against the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), now Governor Mohammed Abubakar, in 2015 and 2019, but lost.

The state chairman of the party, Babandi Gumel, disclosed this in a statement made available to The Guardian in Abuja, yesterday.

He explained that the embattled gubernatorial candidate refused to make himself available before the party’s disciplinary committee to answer allegations of anti-party activities and sabotage against him by the ward executive of the party.

Gumel said the party’s State Executive Committee (SEC) took the decision sequel to a letter it received from the Ringim Ward of the party.

“About three weeks ago, we received a letter that due to anti-party activities and sabotage perpetrated by the party’s governorship candidate in the 2015 and 2019 elections in the state, Aminu Ringim, was suspended for a month.”

“The letter was sent to us, the SEC. We looked into the letter vis-à-vis the constitution of the party. The constitution provided that we set up a committee to investigate the matter, which we did,” he stated.

He indicated that since there were two parties to the issue, the committee decided to invite both: the ward executive of the party and the person under investigation.

“After the invitation, the committee under the chairmanship of Alhaji Muhammad Daguro confirmed to us that the allegations of anti-party and sabotage were actually perpetrated by the accused,” he stated.

The chairman added that Ringim did not honour letters of invitation to him on two occasions, as he failed to appear before the committee.

Consequently, the ward committee advised the SEC to take necessary action, which was to expel him from the party.

The state PDP chairman said the committee endorsed the recommendations, adding that the SEC took the decision on Tuesday after a meeting of the members.

Gumel said his committee ratified the expulsion recommended by the committee of his ward.

“We wrote another letter to him (Ringim) to urge him to stop parading himself as a member of the PDP in Jigawa,” he added.
