Former aviation minister and Chancellor of Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, Osita Chidoka, has called on African youths to join and participate actively in the wind of change on the continent.

He made the call in a keynote address at the Okosisi Colloquium.

Chidoka urged African youths not to await invitations but to boldly “invite themselves to the table” by showcasing their values.

He stressed the imperative to reverse the trend of aging leadership and advocated proactive steps toward governance.

The colloquium, organised by Zuri Health, a health tech company in Africa founded by Ike Arthur Anoke in 2020, convened at JW Marriott Hotel, Nairobi on May 17, 2024.

The event attracted a diverse audience of young people and featured speakers, including the Managing Director, UBA Kenya, Mary Mulili; Head of The Mycetoma Programme, Drugs for Neglected Disease, Dr Borna Nyaoke Anoke.

Keynote speakers included Ambassador Laassel of the Kingdom of Morocco to Kenya and South Sudan; and former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of Labour Party in Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election.

Drawing from his tenure at the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Chidoka unveiled his four-step success model, KVES (Knowledge, Vision, Execute, and Sustain), highlighting the importance of establishing a baseline, fostering a shared vision, effective execution, and sustaining results.

Emphasising the potency of youth contribution, Chidoka urged young leaders to harness their energy and fearlessness to drive positive change within their communities, asserting that taking the initiative was the pathway to fostering youth inclusion in governance.
