International model Joseph Walters recently asserted that childhood dreams are achievable if pursued with passion. The model (real name Babalola Otitoju Joseph) who has worked for major brands such as Walkfashionshow, John Casablanca, Bndhouse, Afrimma, Krave and Slay magazines among others, avowed that his career trajectory is a good illustration of this principle of life.
He said: “I was born in Nigeria and I lived in my native country for the first 20 years of my life before moving to America. Growing up, I had dreams of becoming a fashion model and was able to begin to develop my modelling career when mom had the opportunity to bring me to the United States. That relocation propelled me forward, as it inspired me to invest in my career. Everywhere I went, people would tell me that I could be a great model because I had the look. This is what pushed me to begin doing photoshoots.”
He continued: “After a year of working with different photographers, I finally started attending casting calls and from there began walking in fashion shows around Dallas. Just after a year of being in the US, I then was presented with an opportunity to participate in the New York Fashion Week as a runway model. I had the opportunity to meet with several stylists, models, and designers which was a great networking opportunity for me.”
Concluding that although sheer hard work and concentration can make dreams come true, Joseph Walters further disclosed that he is also studying for his bachelor degree even while he is actively pursuing his modelling career.
In his reflection, he also recognised the influence of role models in his upward trajectory. Said he: “I’m inspired by models who started from the bottom and succeeded with effort and humility. Also, my biggest inspiration is people who never give up on what life throws at them, people who do great things to break their weaknesses; such examples showed me how to be brave and never give up.”
Urging young people to give life their best, he said: “We only live once and even though we don’t have everything we desire, still we can do something good for the world and make our dreams come true.”
