Journalist emerges president of Yoruba community in Bauchi

Yoruba community in Bauchi State has elected a journalist, Segun Awofadeji, as the President-General of all Yoruba-speaking people in the state.
Awofadeji emerged as winner of Saturday’s election by defeating the incumbent, Bamigbade Abayomi.


The Vice President, AbdulAzeez Eyitayo, popularly called ‘Professor’, was re-elected unopposed, while Mukaila Adegboyega was elected Secretary.

The senior journalist with ThisDay Newspapers, in his acceptance speech, called on those that were unsuccessful in the election to support him in transforming the Yoruba community in the state.

His words: “The Yoruba have rich culture, and tradition of peaceful co-existence with one another and with other ethnic groups, irrespective of ethno-religious, political and socio-cultural differences. So, I strongly appeal to you to continue to promote unity, tolerance, peaceful co-existence, harmonious relationship and love among ourselves, as well as with our host communities.”

According to him, the election is over; it is time for work.

He implored all contestants, in the interest of the Yoruba Community in Bauchi, to support his administration, “as we forge a united front to chart a new chapter that will take our community to the promised land.”
