Popular Nigerian actor, Juliet Jatto, speaks on her trajectory in the movie industry, in this interview with The Guardian’s IFEANYI IBEH as she calls on the government at all levels to invest in the industry as a way of empowering the youth.

Can you tell us about yourself?

My name is Juliet Jatto a native of Delta State with a BSc (hons) in public administration from the University of Lagos.

What influenced your decision to become an actor?

Growing up I used to adore the actors and the message they passed via their movies and I felt I can also contribute my quota to humanity via acting.

How did you feel the first time you starred in a movie?

I felt so elated because that has always been my dream growing up.

What movie brought you into the limelight?

I can’t single any particular movie out but my Erimipe character in Omo odo was a turning point which was consolidated with Omilagba.

What challenges did you face on your journey to stardom?

I was really lucky that I didn’t face many challenges because I was surrounded by good bosses who were very supportive.  I started my acting career at Odunfa caucus and that played a major role in me not having too much challenge

How were you able to cope and overcome them?

With proper training and my ever supportive bosses the challenge was not much like I stated earlier.

Is life any different since stardom?

Plenty differences because with stardom a goldfish has no hiding place.  Everything I do is in the limelight; all eyes on me everywhere, even in marketplaces; no place to hide. But it actually consolidated the good character in me as I don’t have anything to hide.

What has stardom deprived you of?

Freedom. No freedom at all and I even end up buying most things at a higher than normal price.

What’s your advice to up-and-coming actors?

They should be very determined, focused with character and set a target for what they intend to achieve, and with perseverance, they will achieve what they want. They should also avoid unnecessary backbiting or spoiling other people’s image. Focus, loyalty, determination is vital and they should always be willing to learn. Daily improvement is vital in our industry.
