Kano clarifies comment on FG’s N500b Palliative Plan

President Bola Tinubu

Kano State government has clarified the comment attributed to the Deputy Governor, Abdussalam Gwarzo, regarding the N500 billion palliatives plan by the Federal government to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy.

The state government also debunked media reports insinuating that it criticised the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration over its plan to support small-scale industries across the country through the Bank of Industry with an allocation of N500 billion.

A statement by the spokesperson of the deputy governor, Ibrahim Garba, yesterday, insisted that the position of state on the issues was blown out of proportion.

According to the statement, the deputy governor only referred to a television interview that featured Senator Ali Ndume, who expressed concerns about the N500 billion palliative plan by the Federal Government.

“The deputy governor made this reference while receiving a delegation from the Kano Cooperative Society at the Government House, as part of activities to commemorate the 2023 International Day of Cooperatives.

“There is nowhere in the earlier statement where the deputy governor mentioned the name of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. After all, the allocation formula had been designed even before President Tinubu assumed office. Therefore, the report was a clear misinterpretation of the deputy governor’s comment,” the statement said.

Garba reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano State government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to support President Tinubu’s vision for a peaceful and united Nigeria.
