Determined to establish a sustainable and conducive living environment for retirees post-service, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has doled out an additional N5 billion for the second instalment of gratuity to pensioners in the state.

Also, to reinvigorate internal revenue generation and collection in the state, the governor approved immediate restructuring of the state’s income revenue.

The governor, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, announced this, yesterday, at the commencement of the 14th State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at the Government House, Kano.

Last year, the government paid N6 billion to thousands of retirees, who did not receive their entitlements in the past eight years.

Yusuf emphasised that the payments were made to support retirees and bring joy to their lives, as many had endured years of waiting without receiving their due despite their dedicated service to the state.

“We are dedicated to ensuring the well-being of civil servants and retirees in the state,” stated the governor.
He also discussed the preparations to clear drainages in the Kano metropolis, in anticipation of the rainy season, and instructed the interim management officers of local council to make similar arrangements.

A high-powered committee led by the deputy governor was set up to oversee the desilting of drainages across the 44 local councils to prevent flooding when the rains come.

He urged Kano people to be patient as the government works tirelessly to address the challenges of water scarcity in the state, despite mechanical issues and inconsistent power supply hindering the smooth operation of the state’s Water Board.

Yusuf expressed gratitude to the people for their support of his administration and assured them of his unwavering commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises to enhance the prosperity of Kano.
WITH the move to revitalise resources potential, Yusuf appointed Dr Zaid Abubakar as the new Executive Chairman of Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), while Kassim Ibrahim is the Executive Director.

Abubakar, a thoroughbred professional accountant and tax practitioner, succeeds Sani Dambo, who was redeployed as Special Adviser on Investment to the Governor.

The spokesperson to Governor, Sanusi Bature, said the new management restructuring takes immediate effect.
