Fagge said: “The individuals arrested include 10 men and one woman caught eating in open places in the afternoon. It is an offence.
“We found them eating while the female was caught hawking groundnuts and also seen eating from her wares, after some persons alerted us. They were arrested along France road, Murtala Muhammed way close to markets where a lot of activities happen,” he said.
“We don’t arrest non-Muslims but the only time they could be guilty of a crime is when we find out they cook food to sell to Muslims who are supposed to be fasting,” Fagge said.
Although Fagge clarified that non-Muslims are exempted from the enforcement’s activities, he said a non-Muslim will be arrested for violation, if found selling food during fasting hours.
The Hisbah spokesperson said the violators would be released after signing an undertaking not to repeat such act.
