The Kano State Police Commissioner, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, has insisted that security forces are fully complying with the court order of the Federal High Court, which halted the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano.

Additionally, the police chief in Kano declared he was unaware of any Kano State government order directing the arrest of the deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, adding that he would not be under any pressure to carry out such an instruction.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had directed the CP to arrest the deposed emir for attempting to disrupt the peace of Kano.

The CP provided this account on Saturday morning while briefing journalists on the security situation surrounding the Kano emirship.

According to the CP, there was a court order with suit no. FHC/KN/CD/182/2024 dated 23rd May 2024, issued by the Federal High Court, calling on all parties to maintain the status quo until 3rd June when the case will be heard and determined.

“We are calling on members of the public to know that the police in the state are working together with the military and other security agencies to provide adequate security to everyone in line with our statutory mandate.

“Let me remind you that the position of the law is very clear, and whoever, under whatever guise, is found planning to disrupt the peace enjoyed in Kano will be dealt with,” the CP noted.

Meanwhile, the Kano state government has accused the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, of orchestrating moves to use federal might to forcefully return Aminu back to the palace.

Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam told journalists at the Emir’s palace on Saturday that the state government would not be intimidated by any force, including the office of the National Security Adviser, to reverse its position on Sanusi.

Muhammadu Sanusi was reinstated yesterday as the 16th Emir of Kano after the repeal of the five emirates established by Ganduje.

Nevertheless, the deposed emir, Bayero, returned to Kano through Malam Aminu Kano International Airport at exactly 5:05 am Saturday amid heavy military cover that accompanied him to Nassarawa palace, one of the resting palaces along Government House.

It was gathered that Aminu was brought to Kano with full federal authority to quash the state government’s action on Sanusi’s reinstatement.
