Kano sets up five-man committee for reopening of boarding schools

The Kano Commissioner of Education, Umar Haruna Doguwa, has set up a five-man committee for the planned reopening of the boarding schools that were closed.

Doguwa in a statement by his spokesperson, Aliyu Yusuf explained that it became necessary considering the importance of boarding schools in Kano state’s education system.

The Commissioner stated that the closure of such schools by the immediate past administration of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje would be investigated.

He said this will be done with a view to finding out the actual reasons for taking such a decision which was attributed to security issues.


“The committee will among other things come up with facts on why and how the schools were closed down at a time when more it’s kind were needed to accommodate the teeming students of the state,” Doguwa said.

Doguwa further disclosed that the committee would report to the ministry the current positions of the schools as per, infrastructure, physical structures, and security.

The Kano Commissioner of Education urged the committee members to work diligently so that the objective of the re-opening excercise will be achieved.

He said the new administration of the state under the leadership of Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf is out to position the education sector for the better.
