Eight schoolchildren and teachers who were kidnapped in Ekiti state have been rescued.

“The abductees are here, the parents and family members are here. I will give you details shortly,” a government official said in a Punch report on Sunday.

The government official said that officials of the state Ministry of Health were on the ground to take them to Ado Ekiti, the state capital for medical attention.

The kidnapped schoolchildren spent five days in the kidnapper’s custody.

The gunmen shot the children’s bus’s tyres and took them captive on their way home from school on Monday afternoon, the school co-founder Gabriel Adesanya told AFP.

He said the Emure Apostolic Faith Primary School pupils aged between eight and 14 were still missing along with the bus driver, conductor and two teachers.

Reports, however said, the driver has been killed.

Two traditional rulers were killed in a separate attack in the same state on Monday. The Ekiti monarchs were shot dead by unknown gunmen.
