Amb. Cui Jian Chun; and Ayodele Shodeinde, at the International Diplomacy Stableford Golf Tournament held at the IBB Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
Ludwig Kirchner and Makosi Musambasi have emerged champions of the men’s and women’s categories of the yearly International Diplomacy Stableford Golf Tournament held at the IBB Golf and Country Club, Abuja.

To win the men’s title at the competition, which featured 99 diplomats and expatriates from 17 countries and some of their Nigerian friends, Kirchner scored 42 Stableford points, Ambassador Kim Young-Chae was second with 39 stableford points, just as Musambasi excelled in the ladies category with 36 Stableford points on countback.

Among the non-diplomat winners of the tournament were Amina Wilfred (Longest Drive & Nearest the Pin Ladies), Florence Anyanwu – Acting Auditor General of Nigeria (Veteran Ladies), Sunita Biju (Winner, Ladies Category), Joy Ikwue (Runner up, Ladies Category), C Uwandu (Veteran Men), Sola Adebayo (Longest Drive Men), M. Suleiman (Nearest to The Pin), Jimmy Ahmed (Second Runner Up men’s category) and P.I. Oyewale (Runner Up men’s category).

The tournament was organized by Afri-Diplomat magazine in partnership with The Envoy Hotel Abuja and The Guardian Newspapers.

One of the highlights of the tournament was the ‘Global Harmony Night,’ a pre-tournament social networking gathering, where people of different nationalities (golfers and non-golfers) bonded over drinks, chops, good music, banters and games.

The event was sponsored by Pepsi, Wakanow, Dradrock Real Estate, Radisson Blu Ikeja, The Envoy, Kaldi Coffee, Rwandair and South African Airways.

Speaking on the tournament, the publisher of Afri-Diplomat magazine, Prince Deji Ajomale-McWord, thanked sponsors, diplomats and other players, who braved the ‘threatening weather’ to participate in the event.

He said: “This is not just a tournament where people gather to golf and be merry; it is one tied around noble subjects and causes and we are constantly measuring its impact.

“Earlier in the day, Nico Figueroa from the U.S. Embassy and the Chinese ambassador, Cui Jian Chun, were batched in same flight and I wittingly remarked that it’s interesting to find US and China on same flight.

“The Chinese ambassador replied, ‘it’s important we work together.’ That, for me, is the spirit of diplomacy and the power of social cohesion in sport.”
