Kogi: Unknown gunmen invade Agojeju Odo community, kill 19, set houses ablaze

Unidentified gunmen, late Thursday, invaded Agojeju Odo in Omala Local Council of Kogi State killing 19 persons, while many houses were set ablaze.


Confirming the incident, yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer of Kogi State Police Command, SP William Aya, said the yet-to-be-identified gunmen attacked Agojeju Odo community in Omala Local Council on Thursday, noting that the Divisional Police Office of the local council informed him that  19 persons were killed while some sustained injuries during the attack.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Bethrand  Onuoha, has deployed more policemen to the communities, assuring that the perpetrators of the heinous act would be apprehended.

Meanwhile, the residents said the gunmen attacked the sleepy town of Agojeju Odo in Omala area, where men were killed and farm produce destroyed.

The community appealed to Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo and security agencies to come to their aid by deploying more security personnel to the area, as the police in the local council were overwhelmed and overpowered by the attackers.
