Kolket Foundation calls on government to prioritise maternal health in Nigeria

A global non-governmental organisation,  Kolket Relief Foundation (KRF), has called on the government at all levels to prioritise maternal health in Nigeria.

The organisation made the call during its online campaign to celebrate the International Day for Maternal Health and Rights on April 11.

In a statement co-signed by the organisation’s Director of Health Projects, Ridwan Morohunranti, and Executive Director, Mukaila Tajudeen Akolade, KRF urged the public and private sectors to collaborate to ensure adequate provision of affordable and high-quality healthcare for pregnant women.

Part of the statement read, “Every birth should be a joyous occasion, yet too often, mothers frequently encounter substantial obstacles when attempting to obtain the necessary healthcare services.

“KRF is convinced that in addition to ensuring the future of their children and communities, it is vital to empower mothers for the greater good of their welfare.”

While reflecting on the theme of this year’s International Day for Maternal Health and Rights, ‘Empower mothers, safeguard futures’,  Kolket also sought investment in healthcare services that are accessible, highly qualitative, and guarantee equality for all mothers.

The statement added, “By collaborating with healthcare providers, developing innovative solutions, and engaging in corporate social responsibility initiatives, the private sector can significantly impact maternal health.

“KRF urges civil society groups, NGOs, community organisations, and individuals to amplify their voices and take action to protect the futures of mothers and empower them.

“Let us reaffirm our dedication on this International Day for Maternal Health and Rights to guaranteeing that all mothers have the necessary and rightful healthcare services at their disposal. By working together, we can enable mothers, protect futures, and establish a global community that adores and anticipates each birth.”
