The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed on Friday that a prisoner at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja recently published two books.

Tunji-Ojo disclosed this in a statement, adding that this achievement is a result of the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu to improve Nigeria’s correctional facilities.

“Yesterday (Thursday), I visited the 3,000-capacity maximum security Correctional Centre in Janguza, Kano State, alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, and the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa,” he wrote on X.

“I also visited Kuje Correctional Centre to assess the ongoing renovation, which is near completion.”

Tunji-Ojo added that he is truly impressed to see Nigeria’s correctional centres fast becoming hubs of reform, where inmates are equipped to become productive members of society upon release.

He said that the Federal Government aims to make the nation’s correctional centres transformative, reformative, truly correctional, and not condemnation centres, while also prioritizing the welfare of both inmates and personnel.

“The highlight of my visit to Kuje was receiving two books published by an inmate, a testament to the transformative impact of the result-driven #RenewedHope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the Minister said.

“On our part as a government under the leadership of President Tinubu, we shall continue in our pursuit of excellence, upgrading our correctional facilities to meet international standards.”
