Kwara gov okays palliatives for vulnerable groups to cushion fuel, cash crisis

Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved palliatives for vulnerable groups in the state to cushion the effects of ongoing fuel and naira scarcity in the country.

The measure will include cash transfers to widows, pensioners, transporters, marketers, smallholder farmers and other vulnerable people and would be executed through the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) to ensure coordination and accountability.

A statement to that effect reads: “The governor has directed KWASSIP to work out the details and deploy this modest support as soon as possible to mitigate effects of the situation.

“The governor has also directed the deployment of free buses along specific routes used by students and staff of tertiary institutions in the capital city, where effects of the fuel scarcity have been most pronounced. Relevant government departments and committees will release further details. The free bus rides for students will begin on Monday, February 13, 2023.”
