Lagos 2023: Governorship election already a walkover for APC, says spokesperson

Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday, dismissed the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdul Azeez Adediran, aka Jandor, as no match for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The party’s state Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, told The Guardian that the March 11, 2023, gubernatorial contest in Lagos, is already a walkover for the ruling party considering the factionalised state of the Lagos PDP. He said the major opposition party is so divided at present such that only members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement are with the PDP candidate.

According to Oladejo, “Democracy allows free talk and opinions, the reality is that the PDP, as a party, is no match for APC. Jandor cannot be seen as an authority in the PDP’s circle where he is considered a stranger and usurper.

“Our major concern is the ongoing fuel and cash scarcity, which can create voter apathy. We are also bothered that the Lagos gubernatorial polls will not provide a real contest or an interesting match for the spectators. In Lagos Central, we are winning, Lagos East is a done deal, whereas, in Lagos West, I do not see Segun Adewale, the PDP senatorial candidate, as a match to the former deputy governor, Idiat Adebule.”

Oladejo also flayed the PDP governorship candidate for not demonstrating enough maturity required to rule Lagos, just as he added that handing over the state to such a candidate is like committing delicate tasks in the hands of a baby.
