Lagos begins rehabilitation of Rowe Park

Rehabilitation work officially began on Tuesday at the popular Mobolaji Johnson Sports Complex, Rowe Park, as the contractor formerly took over the facility for the commencement of work.

Speaking at the official handover of the facility to the contractor, Bytrax Technologies Limited, the chairman, Lagos State Sports Trust Fund (LSSTF), Femi Pedro, said the facility, which has produced and is still producing world-class athletes for the country, would be upgraded to international standard. He said the rehabilitation work is expected to last for six months.

Pedro, in the company of some board members and Executive Secretary of LSSTF, Olaposi Agunbiade, performed the handing-over ceremony of the indoor hall at Rowe Park yesterday, explaining that the rehabilitation work would be supervised by the Lagos State Ministry of Works.

“I think this is one of our major work as a board and this is also in line with the agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which is youth empowerment through sports. We believe upgrading this facility to international standards would attract more international competitions to the state, while our athletes would also use it to train themselves in readiness for major competitions.

“This rehabilitation work has commenced officially from today (yesterday) and this is the first phase of the work while the second phase will take off at the expiration of the first phase.”

“This work would not be possible without the support of the state government, Lagos Lottery, and Chief Kensington Adebutu, who has been supporting us. We are hoping that some major corporate bodies in the state would also come on board to support us to upgrade and build sporting facilities across the state,” the former Lagos State deputy governor added.

According to the representative of Bytrax Technologies Limited, Kayode Ogunnaike, the indoor hall would be upgraded to international standard with special attention to the floor, which would be changed and made to international standard.
