Lagos commits N360m to staff quarters’ renovation, raises housing loan to N1b

Lagos State Government, yesterday, revealed that ₦360 million would be spent for the renovation and maintenance of apartments in Amuwo-Odofin, Badagry, Alausa, Ogba, Surulere, Ajah, Ikoyi, and Ikorodu axis of the state.


The state’s Head of Service, Bode Agoro, who disclosed this during the ongoing media briefing to mark the first year of the second term of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, said that the governor, upon his re-election in May 2023, increased the yearly subvention for housing loan facility from N100 million to N1 billion.

He also said that the governor had approved a 100 per cent upward review of staff housing loans entitlement to various categories of public servants to enable them to purchase parcels of land/renovate existing ones.

Agoro gave the assurance that his office would continue to provide the required guidance and leadership to the entire public service in line with its mandate.

He also revealed that the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency (LSPPA) generated N1.9 billion as revenue in the last 12 months, saying that N335 million was generated from registration of service providers, N330.7 million from renewal of registration while N1.25 million was generated from 0.25 per cent administrative fee.

Meanwhile, Sanwo-Olu, will next Tuesday launch the Lagos Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan (LCARP) and the Lagos Climate Change Mainstreaming Strategy as the 10th Lagos International Climate Change Summit gets underway.

The governor would be leading an array of special guests, including a former governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), to the event which holds from June 4-6, 2024 at the Lagos Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island with the theme: “Accelerating Climate Finance and Championing Local Adaptation Initiatives.”


The lead paper for the 10th summit will be delivered by the C40 Regional Director for Africa, Dorah Modise, while two former Commissioners for the Environment, Tunji Bello and Dr Muiz Banire, will feature in a special session with the topic: “Perspective on Climate Change through the Lens on High Level Pioneer Governance.”

In another development, Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, revealed that since the inception of his administration, the state-owned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses have moved 51 million passengers while the state ferry service, LAGFERRY, has successfully transported about two million passengers across Lagos Inland Waterways.

Sanwo-Olu, while speaking at the unveiling of the Lagos State Transport Policy in Ikeja, represented by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, said that the state government expanded the fleet of its high-capacity and medium-capacity buses to 335 buses.

The governor stated that in his efforts to revolutionise urban mobility, Lagos Ride, a technology-driven ride-hailing service was introduced to offers secure, dependable, and cost-effective transportation solutions to residents. Besides, the state government said it had paid N4.43 billion as insurance death benefits and claims since 2019 to families of deceased civil servants in the state.
