Lagos council offers doctors 100% pay rise

The chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Fuad Atanda-Lawal, has announced a 100% pay rise for doctors working in its health centers.

Atanda-Lawal made the announcement on Thursday after deliberations on the need to ensure that all residents of the council area had access to comprehensive, quality and affordable health care.

The decision, effective from February 2024, aims to retain skilled medical personnel and combat the ongoing “brain drain” affecting Nigeria’s healthcare system, he said.

Atanda-Lawal stated the decision is coming on the heels of the commencement of the construction of a state-of-the-art primary health centre that will cater for a larger number of people in the community.

“We believe that by investing in our healthcare professionals, we are taking a step towards achieving this goal,” Atanda-Lawal said.
