• PDP withdraws from Ogun LG election
• Police deploy SWAT, other tactical squads
Lagos State Government has announced restriction of movement across the state between 8.00 am and 3.00 pm on Saturday, July 24, 2021.
In a statement, yesterday, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the restriction would enable the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) conduct a hitch-free election in all the 20 local councils and local council development areas (LCDAs).
IN another development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State said it had withdrawn from the council elections scheduled to hold tomorrow in the state.
In a statement yesterday, the PDP Chairman in the state, Sikirulai Ogundele, said the decision was sequel to a judgment of an Ogun State High Court in a suit between him and Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC).
Ogundele had sued OGSIEC for dealing with a faction in the party, claiming that the electoral umpire is assisting the opposition to destabilise the PDP in the state.
HOWEVER, the Ogun State Police Command said it had deployed tactical squads to ensure free, fair and credible polls.
The command said it had also collaborated with other sister security agencies to put in place elaborate security arrangements.
A statement by the Ogun Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, yesterday, said that the command had at various levels and fora met with the contesting political parties and their candidates, saying they “have been warned to eschew violence before, during and after the election.”
