State plans to hand over 270 home units to allottees in Egan-Igando on June 6

Lagos State Government, yesterday, said that it had saved over 1.5 million lives and recruited more than two million voluntary blood donors through the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Services (LSBTS).

The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, disclosed this in his keynote address during a symposium commemorating the 20th anniversary of LSBTS, held in Ikeja.

Sanwo-Olu said that despite the increasing number of blood donors yearly, the state still relies on various forms of coercive blood donation, saying this underscores the need for collective and concerted efforts to encourage voluntary blood donation.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, further said that the symposium, with the theme, “Pioneering the Path and Shaping the Future of Blood Services in Nigeria,” is well-timed.

He said that the state is committed to ensuring that blood transfusion services have adequate infrastructure and is moving towards modern technology to ensure that every pint of blood transfused is safe and free from infections.

Sanwo-Olu, who reiterated the administration’s commitment to providing sustainable and qualitative healthcare delivery, urged all healthcare workers to avoid rivalry in discharging their duties.

He, therefore, promised that the government would continue to provide healthcare for workers with a conducive environment and adequate infrastructure for effective delivery.

Meanwhile, in fulfilment of Sanwo-Olu’s pledge to complete all ongoing housing projects in the state, Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, has said that by the first week of June 2024, Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Estate will be commissioned and keys handed over to the home-owners after 21 years of its commencement.

Akinderu-Fatai, who spoke during an on-site inspection of the estate in Ikotun-Igando Local Council Development Area of the state, said that the housing estate was aimed at providing affordable and quality housing for the people of the state.

He noted that the project was faced with numerous setbacks and challenges, including large-scale vandalism and theft.
