Lagos, Ogun dispute over ownership, encroachment of six communities

• ‘Lagos paid N391.2m to 264 families of deceased workers in last one year’
• LASG says over 50 monarchs installed in last four years, two CBD officers dismissed for extortion

Lagos State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Bolaji Kayode Robert, has said that the state and its Ogun counterpart are currently in dispute over the ownership and encroachment into six communities.


He said this, yesterday, during the ongoing media briefing to mark the first year of the second term of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

Robert listed the communities to include Ode Omi in Epe; Abule-Egba/Sango on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway; ljanikin-Agbara on Lagos-Badagry Expressway; Odogunyan/Ita Oluwo on Ikorodu-Sagamu Road and Ikorodu/Itokin on ljebu-Ode Road.

He, however, said that the ministry’s boundary department would work with the National Boundary Commission to amicably resolve the disputed areas.

Also on inter-local council boundary, he said that the department would work with the Office of the Surveyor-General of the state with a series of visits to the local councils and local council development areas to resolve conflicts and ensure that the issues in the disputed areas are settled amicably.

In another development, the state government, yesterday, said that about N391.2 million was paid to 264 families of deceased employees of local councils, local council development areas and the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LSUBEB) in the last year.

Robert also disclosed this during the media briefing.

According to him, N153.2 million was paid to the families of 122 deceased local council employees while N167 million was paid to the families of 142 SUBEB deceased workers.

The commissioner, who also revealed that over 50 monarchs had been installed since Sanwo-Olu came on board in 2019, reassured residents of the state government’s commitment to grassroots development.

He, therefore, stated that people at the grassroots would continue to be at the centre of its development policy.

Also, the state government, yesterday, disclosed that two officers of the Central Business Districts (CBD) were dismissed for extorting traders in the course of their duties within the last one year.

Besides, it said 833 vehicles and 49 tricycles were arrested with the drivers and owners prosecuted for various traffic offences within CBD in the year under review.
