Lagos pledges completion of Abiola-Onijemo link road, bridge by second quarter

Lagos State has promised to complete a road and bridge project linking Ifako-Ijaiye Local Council and Ojodu Local Council of the state.

This is with a view to improving connectivity and consolidating the transportation pillar of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.

Speaking during an inspection of the project, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Infrastructure, Ayodele Somide, said the road and bridge project has attained 63 per cent completion.

He said the project was embarked upon to prevent flooding, improve the environmental status of communities, and provide an effective by-pass to traffic gridlock.

Somide described the road as a strategic link: from College Road, through Ajayi Street, Ogba to Aruna/Obawole/Iju-Ishaga in Ifako-Ijaiye and Ojodu Local Council.

He said upon completion, the project is expected to improve interconnectivity of roads within the axis.

According to the permanent secretary, contractors have completed the piling works (28 piles plus one relief pile, with pile caps in place) while the piers and the pier caps as well as the abutment walls are all completed.

Somide said with the final launch and installation of the precast beam/girders that was done yesterday, the project is moving closer towards completion.

“Overall, the project (bridge and road works) is currently at 63 per cent completion, and the contractor promised to deliver the project by the end of May 2024,” he added.
